Ben Atkins
After being handed a bass guitar at the age of 16 with the instruction ‘keep up with the rest of the band’, Ben studied bass guitar at the Academy of Contemporary Music and music at Cambridge University. He soon found himself in demand as both bassist and musical director in a wide range of styles including jazz, soul, pop, rock, blues and folk.
As a classically trained singer, Ben has performed in a number of choirs, including Kings College Cambridge. Also, as a multi-instrumentalist, he is a member of the double bass sections of Bedford Symphony Orchestra, Bedford Sinfonia and guest member of Milton Keynes Sinfonia and St Albans Symphony Orchestra. He is also an experienced conductor of choirs and orchestras and regularly performs on keyboards, guitars and drums.
Ben joined Albany Down in 2018, and in addition to laying down a solid bassline he contributes backing vocal arrangements, live recording mixing and production, His experimental approach to audio effects has become a signature part of the band’s live sound, pushing the boundaries of the band as a “Power Trio”.
